The Cellular Engineering group
<https://researcher.watson.ibm.com/researcher/view_group.php?id=7568> at
the IBM Almaden Research Center is looking for Postdoc candidates to
participate in the project “Smart Care and Systems of Engagement of
Public Health”, which aims to apply techniques of Data Science, Social
computing, Multi-agent Simulation, and Decision Theory to create novel
methods for Social Simulation in Public Health to classify, understand,
and predict social issues that affect disease outbreaks aiming to
helping coordinate effective campaigns. The project will be developed
under the current engagement "Eliminate Hep C" which is joint effort by
The Louisiana Office of Public Health and IBM to co-create an end to end
solution aimed at improving population health in Louisiana - starting
with the elimination of Hepatitis C (check our video at:
https://vimeo.com/327830372/7146aa91cb). The research and development
will be executed on an industry environment, making use of realistic
datasets and focusing on business impact and production of intellectual
property (such as patents). The candidate will work closely with a
multidisciplinary team of researchers and developers, as well as public
health officials and interested stakeholders.
Desired skills:
* Be able to collaborate with other professionals to determine
functional requirements and available datasets for a viable cut-edge
research solution in a defined scope.
* Contribute to define research scope and high-level research problems,
and alternatives for viable solutions based on the integration of Data
Science, Social computing, Multi-agent Simulation, and Decision Theory.
* Curate dataset of relevant research data from exiting project and
other sources.
* Define and implement a proof of concept solution integrating the
proposed models of Computational Intelligence, Data Science, Social
computing, Multi-agent Simulation, and other technologies required to
compose the solution.
* Critical thinking and proven ability to solve complex problems.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and
oral, with a demonstrated ability to convey information to and build
rapport with all levels of staff within a diverse work environment;
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate well
with a range of personnel from both industrial and research environments.
Required Experience
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Physics, Computational Biology, Computer Science,
Information Systems and related areas.
Publication track record on development of Multi-agent Simulation,
Social computing, Data Science, and/or Decision Theory.
Experience with coding (JS, C#, Java, Python, etc.), enough to create
practical prototypes to demonstrate the proposed solution.
Experience with computational platforms and computing simulation systems
integrated to Public Health (a plus).
Interested parties should contact directly Simone Bianco at
sbianco at us.ibm.com .
