Dear colleagues,
I would like to draw your attention to a tenure track opening in applied
mathematics at Utrecht University, the Netherlands.
Best regards,
Jason Frank
*Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics (0.8-1.0 FTE)*
including data-driven approaches to dynamical systems, inverse problems
and uncertainty quantification, applied dynamical systems, multiscale
processes and complex systems. We are looking for young scientists that
are eager to play a committed role in all aspects of academic life,
including collaborations with other fields of science.
The Mathematical Institute of the Department of Mathematics
<https://www.uu.nl/en/organisation/mathematical-institute> organises and
teaches the Bachelor's curricula in Mathematics as well as the
(English-taught) Master's programme in Mathematics and some service
teaching in mathematics. The Institute currently comprises about 10 full
professors, 20 additional faculty members, 25 PhD students and 10
post-docs, and teaches 500 students. The Institute is internationally
recognised for its research in both pure and applied mathematics. It
houses the Utrecht Geometry Centre <http://utrechtgeometrycentre.nl/>
and maintains a long-standing tradition of transdisciplinary
collaboration with other scientific fields including, among others,
atmosphere/ocean sciences, computational life sciences, mathematical
biology, medical and seismic imaging, and theoretical physics. We
participate in university focus areas in Complex Systems and Applied
Data Science.
The appointment is at the level of assistant professor ("universitair
docent", lecturer), initially for a period of 5 years. The position will
be subject to a mid-term evaluation after approximately 2.5 years and an
end-term evaluation. Following a positive evaluation the position will
become permanent after 5 years. In case of sufficient seniority, the
position can be tenured at a higher level.
In view of the gender balance, we strongly encourage women to apply.
Female candidates will also be considered for a Westerdijk Fellowship
<http://www.uu.nl/en/organisation/faculty-of-science/about-us/westerdijk-fellowship>,
an attractive startup package created by the Faculty of Science in order
to increase its number of female scientists.
Closing date for applications: 15 November 2019
