Applicants must have a PhD degree in mathematics, statistics, bio 
statistics, data science, or a related area by the time of appointment. 
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong potential for excellence 
in research and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. 
Duties of this appointment include research, undergraduate and graduate 
teaching, and service to the Department. The positions are intended to 
support the new MS and PhD program in Statistics and Data Science and to 
contribute to the teaching of core courses in the Department’s 
mathematics and statistics curriculum. New faculty are expected to 
maintain an active research program and establish interdisciplinary 
collaborations within and across department and college boundaries. All 
areas of statistics and data science are considered.

Reno offers an outstanding quality of life: Reno was recently ranked 
11th nationally for best cities for an active lifestyle.  There is a 
vibrant midtown, an expanding tech sector, an easily accessible 
international airport, and some of the best outdoor recreation in the 
country, including hiking, mountain biking, golf, skiing, and many other 
activities.  Reno is on the edge of the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe is 
only an hour away.  San Francisco, Yosemite, and California wine country 
are all within a four hour drive.
