Subject: [DMANET] Post-doctoral position in Computational Optimization
and Applications (Santiago, Chile)
Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2019 12:44:20 +0000
From: Eduardo Moreno Araya <eduardo.moreno at uai.cl>

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research position at
Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Santiago, Chile) to work on the development
of optimization methods for large-scale project management and
applications in strategic mine planning. Applicants with strong
computational skills and an interest in optimization and natural
resource management are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have
obtained their Ph.D. no earlier than 2014.
This two-year position has a broad research mandate, with possible focus
areas ranging from the methodological (general decomposition methods,
cutting-planes, constraint programming, or others), to more applied
computational work in mining with our many industrial partners. Though
no previous experience in scheduling or mining is required, post-holders
will be expected to dominate these fields during the course of the
position and be able to work both independently, and as part of a multi
disciplinary team comprised of optimizers, mining engineers, computer
scientists, programmers, and others.
The position comes with the opportunity to develop a research or
professional career in a high-impact industry, work with real data and
ongoing mining projects throughout the world, develop large-scale
optimization technologies in the cloud, and be part of an international
network of research and industrial collaborators in the United States
and Australia. Willingness to travel during the post-doc position is a plus.
The post is available from October 1st, 2019, or a mutually agreed date.
Based in Santiago, Chile, at the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Peñalolen
Campus, the position has a starting salary of USD $40,000 before taxes.
Please enclose with your application your CV, a research statement, and
three references to which recommendation letters can be solicited.
The position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
Informal enquiries are encouraged; please contact Professors Eduardo
Moreno or Marcos Goycoolea by email at eduardo.moreno at uai.cl and
marcos.goycoolea at uai.cl.
