The Institute of Mathematics at TU Berlin has a vacancy for a Tenure
Track Professorship in the field of
Algebraic and Geometric Methods in Data Analysis.
This professorship should be seen in the context of Technische
Universitaet Berlin's goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the
early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is initially
limited to three years. The position shall be renewed for a further
three years conditional upon the postholder's performance and agreement.
After six years, as a rule, a lifelong professorship will be offered
conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria
and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. Information about
the evaluation criteria can be found on Technische Universitaet Berlin's
website, quick access 195779
(https://www.naturwissenschaften.tu-berlin.de/menue/service/berufungen/parameter/en/).
Working field:
The position requires research and teaching in one area of Algebraic and
Geometric Methods in Data Analysis. The area of research expertise
should allow cooperations with the current professors at the Institute
of Mathematics as well as participation in current and future
collaborative research activities. Active participation in the "Berlin
International Graduate School in Model and Simulation based Research
(BIMoS) and the Berlin Mathematical School (BMS) is also anticipated.
Teaching will be required in all mathematical degree programs (including
undergraduate) and in the service teaching of mathematics for other
programs. Teaching requirements should be met in German and English.
Candidates are expected to supervise students' theses on Bachelor and
Master level as well as to participate in the academic administration of
the university. Requirements:
The candidate must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Section
102c Berlin State Higher Education Act in combination with Section 102a
Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a
university degree in Mathematics or a related subject, a strong aptitude
for research demonstrated, as a rule, by an outstanding doctorate in
Mathematics as well as teaching skills demonstrated by a teaching
portfolio (for further information about the portfolio, see Technische
Universitaet Berlin's website, quick access 144242).
Candidates must have an already internationally visible profile in the
area of algebraic and geometric methods in data analysis and have
research results that have been published in refereed journals.
Experience in the application for grant proposals and in collaborative
research is appreciated.
Applicants must show first teaching experience at university level.
First experience in advising and supervising Bachelor and Master
students is expected. Experience in academic administration is appreciated.
TU Berlin expects from its professors the ability to take responsibility
for leadership and strategic development of their research group and
their employees. That includes activities in promoting junior and female
researchers, gender and diversity competencies in the sense of diversity
sensitive working and study conditions, substantial impulses in research
and teaching as well as contribution to academic administration.
Interdisciplinary cooperations, initiatives in science communication as
well as science and technology transfer are very welcome. As university
with an international profile, we expect good knowledge of the English
language. Non-German speaking applicants are explicitly welcome while
expected to learn German quickly.
