The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UiT - The Arctic 
University of Norway invites applications to a permanent position in 
mathematics within the field of Algebra and its applications. We are 
particularly interested in strengthening the research activities within 
the Lie-Størmer Center for Fundamental Structures in Computational and 
Pure Mathematics. Preference will be given to candidates who can 
demonstrate connections to current research activities in the Algebra 
group (https://uit.no/research/algebra and the Lie Størmer Center 
(https://uit.no/research/lsc The successful candidate will join the 
Department of Mathematics and Statistics and will be associated to the 
Algebra group.

The applicant should be qualified to contribute to research-based 
teaching in mathematics and supervision in cooperation with the existing 
staff at the department to create an excellent learning environment. She 
or he should further be willing to initiate and take part in national 
and international research projects and work actively to receive 
research grants. We are especially encouraging interdisciplinary 
collaboration and interactions and we are interested in candidates able 
to contribute also to courses in the interplay of mathematics and 
computer science.We will consider both experienced researchers and 
up-and-coming candidates in earlier stages of their careers, and the 
evaluation of the applicants will be on the potential of the candidates 
to contribute to the creation of a leading research group in the field 
of Algebra and its applications. The department is particularly 
committed to increase the proportion of women in senior research 
positions. We therefore especially encourage female candidates to apply.
