* PhD student, start date September or January each year
Successful candidates will be selected to work on research projects
supervised by Stephane Durocher, which currently include:
* Algorithms for computing geometric measures of data depth
* Algorithms for computing location estimators of spatio-temporal
trajectory data
Applicants interested in pursuing research on other projects in
algorithms, computational geometry, and data structures are also
encouraged to apply.
Interested applicants with a strong background in theoretical computer
science should submit the following by email to
stephane.durocher at umanitoba.ca<mailto:stephane.durocher at umanitoba.ca> :
* an overview of research experience
* a curriculum vitae, including lists of publications, degrees obtained

The GADA Lab in the Department of Computer Science at the University of
Manitoba is a vibrant research group consisting of four faculty members,
approximately ten MSc and PhD students, and several BSc students
focusing on research in algorithms. Weekly group research discussions
are held during the teaching terms, as well as several weekly project
meetings. Alumni from the GADA Lab now hold faculty positions at various
universities, as well as positions in industry (e.g., at Google).
The Department of Computer Science at the University of Manitoba is a
dynamic research department, currently consisting of 30 research and
teaching faculty, with clusters of expertise in algorithms, machine
learning and computer vision, human-computer interaction,
bioinformatics, and distributed computing.
The University of Manitoba has approximately 28,000 students and is the
largest research institute in Manitoba. Established in 1877, it was the
first university in western Canada. In 2018 the University of Manitoba
ranked 12th in a ranking of top research universities in Canada (of
approximately 95 universities in Canada).
With a population of over 778,000, the city of Winnipeg is the cultural
centre of the Canadian prairie region, with world-class ballet,
