At the University of Koblenz-Landau, Campus Koblenz, there are several
research positions available as part of the collaborative research
project "Interdisciplinary hub for teaching skills in the development,
handling and application of explainable, trustworthy, resilient and
secure AI processes" (IH - evrsKI).

For the working group 'Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and
Optimization of Complex Systems' of Michael Hinze at the Mathematical
Institute we are looking for a research assistant (m/f/d) (1.0 Egr. 13
TV-L, 36 months).

The research focus of this position lies in the development and
communication of mathematical principles and algorithms for certified
methods of machine learning and complexity reduction. An important goal
is the development of a corresponding course programme that bridges the
gap between the effectiveness and the success of the methods. In
addition, it intends to address questions about the quality and
structure of solutions, and also pursues the question of what can be
learned or reduced at all and under which conditions or at which speed
algorithms and methods of machine learning and complexity reduction
converge or can be generalized. An integral part of the research here is
also the communication of these topics to students from different
disciplines.

Requirements:

Successful candidates require a master degree in Applied Mathematics,
Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Computational Physics, with
a strong background in numerical methods and nonlinear programming,
ideally with experience in mathematical complexity reduction,
approximation and/or machine learning. Fluency in both written and
spoken English and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team are
mandatory. Additional knowledge in modern scientific programming is
desired. Very strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn,
ability to work independently, experience/willingness in writing
publications and good presentation skills are essential.

If you have any questions, Prof. Dr. Michael Hinze is at your disposal
(hinze at uni-koblenz.de, Tel.: +49 261 287-2310). The complete call for
applications can be viewed at
