*Position*

Applications are invited for the appointment as* Post-doctoral Fellow in 
the Department of Mathematics (Ref.: 522400)*, to commence as soon as 
possible no later than fall 2023 for at least one year, with the 
possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly 
competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will 
be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

*Qualification*

1.They should have research background in either one of the following 
areas: optimization, scientific computation, machine learning. 
  Applicants with research experience in optimal transport, deep neural 
network, numerical methods for ODEs/PDEs are preferred, while the 
applicant's individual research interests will also be taken into 
consideration.

2.Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Mathematics, Computer 
Science, Industrial Engineering or a related area.

3.Self-motivated applicants with extensive research experience, strong 
skills in mathematics are welcome to apply. Proficiency in coding 
languages such as MATLAB, Python or C++ is preferred.

*Mentor Bio*

The appointee will be working under the supervision of Dr. Yue Xie and 
Dr. Zhiwen Zhang.

Dr. Yue Xie is a Research Assistant Professor in Department of 
Mathematics and Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science 
(HKU-IDS) at the University of Hong Kong. He was a postdoc at UW Madison 
working in the nonconvex optimization group led by Professor Stephen J. 
Wright. He received his PhD degree in Pennsylvania State University and 
Bachelor degree from Tsinghua University. Dr. Yue Xie has been focusing 
on algorithm design and analysis to address large-scale optimization 
problems with all types of applications including machine learning and 
data science. He has published/served as the referee of top-tier 
journals including Mathematical Programming, SIAM Journal on 
Optimization, and IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, etc. He has 
delivered numerous presentations at major international conferences such 
as International Conference on Continuous Optimization (ICCOPT), 
International Symposium on Mathematical Programming (ISMP), SIAM 
Conference on Optimization and International Conference on Machine
