We are looking for candidates that would complement and/or strengthen existing research areas in our institute. Strong candidates from all areas of theoretical computer science will be considered. A successful candidate is expected to pursue an active research program, teach advanced and introductory classes (in English or Czech) and possibly supervise undergraduate and graduate students. A Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related field is required at the time of starting the contract. The contract duration is three years. Potentially, the position is renewable. This is a tenure-track position, a habilitation (associate professor promotion) and a permanent position is a standard possibility (subject to a separate review process).

In justified cases, e.g., if the applicant completes his doctoral studies in the period between the submission of the application and the date of starting the employment relationship, the applicant must provide proof of the completed doctoral studies before signing the employment contract, but no later than 9 months after the application deadline.

postdoctoral fellow or assistant professor in the field of computer

technologies and applied mathematics in an interdisciplinary research 
group that operates at the intersection of computer science, information

The Laboratoire d'Informatique de Paris-Nord (LIPN - CNRS UMR 7030) is 
strengthening its research in Combinatorial Optimization and 
Mathematical Programming within the Algorithms and Combinatorial 
Optimization (AOC) team by recruiting two associate professors.

LIPN's Algorithms and Combinatorial Optimization (AOC) team addresses a 
wide variety of issues, ranging from the theoretical to the practical 
aspects of combinatorial optimization and operations research. It 
studies combinatorial problems' structures and designs algorithms based 
on polyhedral and graph theory, as well as mathematical programming. The 
AOC team is also interested in the implementation of these algorithms 
for practical applications, arising in the industry sector.

The team has developed not only local collaborations (notably within the 
MathSTIC federation), regional collaborations (with CERMICS, LIX, CNAM, 
LAMSADE, LIP6, etc.), national collaborations (Bordeaux, Grenoble, 
Nantes, Nancy, etc.), but also international ones (Italy, USA, Mexico, 
Germany, Canada, Scotland, Spain, etc.). It also has numerous industrial 
connections.

The profile sought may come from any field of combinatorial optimization 
and operations research related to the research themes of the AOC team. 
A profile with a background in linear and non-linear optimization, 
polyhedra or decomposition methods is particularly welcome. 
Complementary expertise in other themes is also welcome, for example in 
optimization under uncertainty (reoptimization, robustness), problem 
complexity, learning for optimization, decision theory or graph theory.

Successful candidates will hold a PhD in Operations Research or 
Mathematical Programming, and will join the Algorithms and Combinatorial 
Optimization (AOC) research team. The profile sought can come from any

department is a part of the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, 
located on the campus of Saarland University in Saarbr?cken, Germany. We

The research group of algorithms applied to bioinformatics at the

Scientific Topics:
It is nowadays increasingly important to handle large amount of data, 
and the need of efficient methods for analysing, compressing and 
indexing texts or graphs keeps on growing.
The research is within algorithmic on strings and graphs applied to 
bioinformatics. The general goal is to analyse collections of texts, 
sequences and graphs through adaptive indices and new similarity 
measures, using combinatorial concepts, such that the Burrows-Wheeler 
Transform, k-mers, and so on.

Profiles:

The LIP laboratory is opening a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in 
Computer Science in Lyon, France.


All themes of the laboratory are eligible, in particular: machine 
learning, computer arithmetic, computer algebra, molecular computing, 
distributed computing, high performance computing, combinatorics, 
compilation, complexity, graph theory, quantum computing, logic, 
computational models, parallelism, proof, scheduling, networks, 
semantics and verification.

The application consists of a CV and a short (2?4 pages) research 
project. It must be supported by a member of the LIP who will act as a 
mentor.

DIMACS, the Center for Discrete Mathematics and Theoretical Computer

DIMACS solicits applications for two positions:

a) DIMACS - Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) Postdoc. This is a 
two-year postdoctoral associateship with the first year (2024-2025)

The Laboratoire d'Informatique de Paris-Nord (LIPN - CNRS UMR 7030) is 
strengthening its research in Combinatorial Optimization and 
Mathematical Programming within the Algorithms and Combinatorial 
Optimization (AOC) team by recruiting two associate professors.

LIPN's Algorithms and Combinatorial Optimization (AOC) team addresses a 
wide variety of issues, ranging from the theoretical to the practical 
aspects of combinatorial optimization and operations research. It 
studies combinatorial problems' structures and designs algorithms based 
on polyhedral and graph theory, as well as mathematical programming. The 
AOC team is also interested in the implementation of these algorithms 
for practical applications, arising in the industry sector.

The team has developed not only local collaborations (notably within the 
MathSTIC federation), regional collaborations (with CERMICS, LIX, CNAM, 
LAMSADE, LIP6, etc.), national collaborations (Bordeaux, Grenoble, 
Nantes, Nancy, etc.), but also international ones (Italy, USA, Mexico, 
Germany, Canada, Scotland, Spain, etc.). It also has numerous industrial 
connections.

The profile sought may come from any field of combinatorial optimization 
and operations research related to the research themes of the AOC team. 
A profile with a background in linear and non-linear optimization, 
polyhedra or decomposition methods is particularly welcome. 
Complementary expertise in other themes is also welcome, for example in 
optimization under uncertainty (reoptimization, robustness), problem 
complexity, learning for optimization, decision theory or graph theory.

Successful candidates will hold a PhD in Operations Research or

The ERC Synergy Grant POCOCOP (Polynomial-time computation: opening the 
black boxes in constraint problems) is offering 1 Postdoc and 2 PhD 
positions at Charles University, Prague.
The goal of the project is to systematically explore polynomial-time 
tractability in the field of constraint satisfaction and its extensions, 
in particular promise CSPs, valued CSPs, and CSPs over infinite domains. 
The project is jointly led by three principal investigators: Manuel 
Bodirsky (TU Dresden), Michael Pinsker (TU Vienna), and Libor Barto 
(Charles University, Prague). The project website ishttps://pococop.eu/>
We are looking for highly motivated and creative candidates and in 
particular encourage female researchers to apply. The applicants should 
have a strong background in at least one of the following fields: 
theoretical computer science, universal algebra, or model theory. For 
the PhD positions the requirements are a Master's degree or equivalent 
in mathematics or computer science. For the Postdoc position the 
requirements are a PhD or equivalent in mathematics or computer science. 
Successful candidates will be based at Prague, but collaborate with the 
other two groups intensively.

For full consideration, we encourage applicants to express their 
interest by the 15th of December 2023. The duration of the PhD positions 
will be 4 years, and the duration of the Postdoc position will be up to 
3 years. The positions come with a very good salary, are fully funded 
from the ERC grant and carry no teaching load; however, if desired 
participation in teaching might be arranged. There is sufficient funding 
for conference and research exchange trips.

Abstract of POCOCOP:

The class P of polynomial-time computable computational problems is the 
most important and robust complexity class for the study of efficient 
computation. Answering what problems belong to P will lead to 
groundbreaking applications in science and modern society where 
computation is omnipresent. Moreover, P is a relatively recent 
mathematical object and radically different from classical notions 
studied for centuries; thus, capturing it promises the discovery of new 
fundamental theorems in mathematics.

Our current understanding of P is limited; for instance, the P=NP 
millennium problem is wide open. There neither exists a uniform 
reduction technique, nor a single algorithmic scheme capturing the power 
of P, nor a description of P in purely logical terms. We intend to 
provide these in a context which is so rich and vast that it requires 
the unification of some of the most important techniques, and will 
enhance our general understanding of P.

Within the microcosm of finite-domain constraint satisfaction problems 
(CSPs), the recent resolution of the Feder-Vardi conjecture by Bulatov 
and by Zhuk provides a satisfactory picture of P. Our goal is a vast and 
uniform generalisation of this result in three directions: towards 
approximation via Promise CSPs, towards optimisation via Valued CSPs, 
and towards infinite domains via omega-categorical CSPs and CSPs over 
numeric domains. In particular, our setting includes the linear 
programming problem as a numeric Valued CSP, the approximate graph 
coloring problem as a Promise CSP, and many problems from qualitative 
reasoning as infinite-domain CSPs.
Our methods range from universal algebra, model theory, Ramsey theory, 
to complexity theory.
Building on cross-connections between these extensions, we will provide 
a uniform description of P within this diverse and applicable universe, 
thus making a revolutionary leap in the resolution of the general problem.

IRIF (Institute for Research in Foundations of Computer Science) is a
