Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has a vacancy in the Networks and
Optimization research group for a talented

Postdoc,

on the subject of Learning-Augmented Algorithms/Mechanism Design.

Job description

Optimization for and with Machine Learning (OPTIMAL) is a Dutch research
project funded by NWO (2020-2025). It is a collaboration between
researchers from the University of Amsterdam, CWI, Tilburg University,
and Technical University Delft.

We are looking for a talented postdoc who is interested in pursuing
fundamental research in learning-augmented algorithms and/or mechanism
design. The primary focus will be on the development of new algorithms
that exploit (machine-learning) predictions to obtain improved and more
fine-grained performance guarantees (approximation ratio, efficiency
guarantee, etc.).

Requirements

Candidates are required to have completed their PhD in discrete
mathematics or theoretical computer science, with a strong background in
combinatorial optimization, theory of algorithms, and/or algorithmic
game theory. Ideally, the candidate has worked already on algorithms
beyond the worst case.

Needed qualifications for candidates include proven research talent,
strong theoretical background, and good academic writing and
presentation skills. Candidates are expected to have an excellent
command of English.

Terms and conditions

The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective
Labour Agreement for Research Centres ("CAO-onderzoeksinstellingen").
The gross monthly salary for an employee on a full time basis, depending
on relevant work experience, ranges from € 4.218 to € 5.141. The
appointment will be for a period of two years.
Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross
