PhD and postdoc positions are available in the new HertzChair in the 
Transdisciplinary Research Area for Modelling at the University of Bonn, 
to be established by Prof. László Végh.The focus of the group is on 
fundamental questions at the crossroads of mathematical 
optimization,theoretical computer science, mathematical economics, and 
game theory. Possible research topics include efficient algorithms for 
linear and convex programming and their geometric aspects, equilibrium 
computation in games and markets, resource allocation and fair division 
problems, approximation algorithms, network optimization, and problems 
at the interface of optimization and machine learning.

We are a dynamic, multi-cultural, andinclusive team, and will benefit 
from the exceptional research environment at the University of Bonn. The 
group will be linked to the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics, the 
Research Institute for DiscreteMathematics, the Institute of Computer 
Science, and the Institute for Microeconomics.

Both PhD and postdoc positions are offered full time (100%) at the 
appropriate level of the German public sector TV-L pay grade 13. PhD 
positions are for 3 years and postdoc positions for 2years with the 
possibility of extension. The start date of the positions is flexible, 
but no earlier than 1 August 2024.

For PhD positions, an MSc in Mathematics, ComputerScience, Operations 
Research, Economics, or other relevant areas is required. For postdoc 
positions, a completed ornear-completed PhD is required in one of these
