Two (2) Temporary Post-doctoral Researcher Positions in Algorithms – 
University of Bergen, Norway


We invite applications for two (2) temporary post-doctoral (researcher) 
positions in Algorithms, open to outstanding candidates ready to 
contribute to cutting-edge research. The positions are based in Bergen, 
Norway, and are associated with the ERC Advanced Grant project “New 
Horizons of Parameterized Complexity (NewPC)”. The project aims to 
develop multivariate algorithmic and complexity tools for optimization 
problems involving geometric and algebraic objects such as points, 
vectors, linear spaces, and matrices. Applications from all areas of 
algorithms are very welcome and will be taken seriously.

Applicants must hold a PhD in Computer Science or Mathematics, or must 
have submitted their doctoral thesis for evaluation before the 
application deadline. It is a condition of employment that the PhD is 
formally awarded before the position begins. The preferred starting date 
is April 2026, but this is negotiable.

Salary and working conditions:
- A good and professionally stimulating working environment.
- Position as researcher (code 1109 in the basic collective agreement) 
and a gross annual salary of NOK 657 000 upon appointment. Further 
increases in salary are made according to length of service in the 
position. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly 
well-qualified applicant.
- Enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
- Good welfare benefits.

About the Algorithms Group in Bergen:
The Algorithms research group at the University of Bergen (UiB) is 
internationally recognized for contributions to parameterized 
complexity, exact algorithms, and graph algorithms. The group maintains 
an active and collaborative research atmosphere with a strong 
publication record and frequent international visitors, research 
seminars and workshops. Post-doctoral researchers are fully integrated 
into group activities and are provided strong support to develop 
independence and pursue collaborations both within and outside the NewPC 
project.
