A postdoc and a PhD position are available at the Chair for 
Combinatorial Optimization headed by Prof. Nicole Megow 
(https://www.uni-bremen.de/en/cslog/nmegow at the University of Bremen. 
The research interests of the group are in the areas of combinatorial 
optimization, efficient algorithms, approximation algorithms, 
optimization under uncertainty such as online, stochastic, or robust 
optimization, and modern models beyond the worst case e.g. integrating 
machine learning into algorithm design.


We are looking for candidates with
- a strong mathematical background, an excellent degree in mathematics 
or computer science
- excitement about algorithms, combinatorial problems, theoretical analysis
- for postdocs: a good track record in algorithms and combinatorial 
optimization, ideally a background in some of the other above-mentioned 
topics
- high motivation, creativity and openness.

We offer a full-time position for two years (postdoc) resp. three years 
(PhD) with a competitive salary, 30 days of vacation, social security 
according to the Federal German Payment scale TV-L 13 (gross annual 
salary of 52k-75k EUR, depending on qualifications and personal 
situation). The group is part of the faculty of mathematics and computer 
science and has strong ties to other theory and optimization oriented 
groups and university-wide initiatives in AI and data science, providing 
the potential for collaborations within Bremen. Further, the group is 
well connected to other leading research groups worldwide. We encourage 
and support international collaborations and research visits.
