We are looking for two highly-qualified and motivated individuals
to pursue a PhD in the area of data science. The prospect PhD
students will join a research team in KTH led by professor
Aristides Gionis (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://www.kth.se/profile/argioni/">https://www.kth.se/profile/argioni/</a>). The
research team focuses on developing novel methods to extract
knowledge from data, modeling large-scale complex systems, and
exploring new application areas in data science. Emphasis is given
in the areas of graph mining, social-network analysis, modeling of
information networks and social-network dynamics, as well as in
emerging domains, such as interpretable AI. The work combines
foundational research in algorithms with development of novel
applications.<br>
<br>
The advertised positions are funded by the European Research
Council (ERC) Advanced Grant REBOUND, which aims to study the
phenomena of polarization and echo chambers in online media and
develop methods to mitigate these phenomena, and by the H2020
European project SoBigData++, which aims at using big data
analysis to understand complex social phenomena.<br>
<br>
Successful applicants should have completed successfully, or
expected to complete, a Master of Science degree, and have strong
background in algorithmic design, data mining, machine learning,
and combinatorial optimization. Applicants are required to have
strong implementation skills and experience with managing
large-scale data. Doctoral students are expected to be able to
publish high-quality papers and develop research prototypes.<br>
<br>
Application deadline: Oct 29, 2020<br>
