At the Aurora Center for Mathematical Structures in Computations
(MASCOT) <<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://uit.no/research/mascot">https://uit.no/research/mascot</a> at UiT — The Arctic
University of Norway 2 positions as postdoctoral fellows are
available from January 1st. Both positions are fixed term position
for a duration of two years, with a possibility of extending by
one more year subject to complementary teaching responsibilities.
Both positions will be attached to the<br>
MASCOT Center which aims to unify and advance research frontiers
in the interplay of pure mathematics and computations by exploring
fundamental mathematical structures and their increasing
significance for modern algorithms and novel program
architectures.<br>
<br>
The first of the positions will be attached to the work package on
optimization of computations via algebraic and combinatorial
approaches to complexity. A successful candidate for this position
ideally has a background in<br>
algorithmic algebraic geometry, applied algebra, representation
theory or computational invariant theory. However, also experience
in neighboring areas such as, for example, combinatorial
optimization, algebraic topology, algebraic statistics, complexity
theory will be considered valuable for this position.<br>
<br>
The other one on applications of Lie-theoretic methods to Cartan
geometries, symbolic tools to facilitate algebraic computations
and the formal theory of differential equations. Here, a
successful should have a background in differential geometry, Lie
theory and be capable of doing concrete and symbolic computations
related to those. Experience in closely related areas such as
commutative algebra, representation theory and mathematical
physics will be also valuable for this position.<br>
