<p>The <a href="https://mathstat.umbc.edu/" title="Unmangled
Microsoft Safelink">Department of Mathematics of Statistics</a>
at the <a href="https://umbc.edu/" title="Unmangled Microsoft
Safelink">University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC)</a>
has an opening for a tenure track faculty position in Applied
Mathematics, starting from August 2023. The appointment is for 9
months per year. Candidates should have finished their PhD in
applied mathematics (or related fields) before their
appointment's start date, and show promise for a career in
research and teaching. A successful candidate should have a
strong background in applied and/or computational mathematics,
possess research synergy with current faculty members, and teach
courses in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UMBC.</p>
<p>Applicants should submit (a) a curriculum vitae that includes a
list of publications; (b) a description of research interests
and research plans; (c) a brief teaching statement; (d) a
statement of commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and
access in higher education; and (e) have at least three letters
of recommendation submitted on their behalf.</p>

<p>UMBC is a <a href="https://news.umbc.edu/umbc-ascends-to-the-nations-highest-level-as-a-research-university/" title="Unmangled Microsoft Safelink">Carnegie classified R1
institution</a>, as well as an MSI (a minority serving
institution, as classified by the US Dept. of the Interior), in
Baltimore County, Maryland. The campus is 15 minutes by car from
Baltimore City, and 45 minutes from the Washington D.C. metro
area. UMBC has both Applied Mathematics PhD and masters programs
which serve the greater Baltimore-Washington region. The
Department of Mathematics and Statistics has <a href="https://mathstat.umbc.edu/research/" title="Unmangled
Microsoft Safelink">active research areas</a> across applied
mathematics.</p>
<p>UMBC and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics are
