The McGill School of Continuing Studies (SCS) invites applications
for a<br>
full-time Assistant Professor (CAS) position in Multilingual
Digital<br>
Communication.<br>
<br>
<br>
This is a full-time ranked academic, non-tenure-track position
with an<br>
initial appointment of three (3) years with the possibility of
renewal<br>
subject to performance. The successful candidate will collaborate
with an<br>
interdisciplinary team of experts to build, develop, teach in, and
make<br>
other contributions (e.g., incubating new initiatives such as
applied<br>
research projects or other entrepreneurial ventures) to the
School’s new<br>
Master’s in Multilingual Digital Communication, a cutting-edge
program and<br>
the first of its kind in Canada that sits at the crossroads of the<br>
communication, language (translation), and tech industries.<br>

<br>
The School of Continuing Studies is one of 11 faculties at McGill<br>
University, a public institution of advanced learning situated in
Montreal,<br>
Quebec, Canada. The School serves a diverse adult learner
population of<br>
8-10,000+ annually, from pre-collegiate to post-retirement age.
Leveraging<br>
both face-to-face and online delivery formats, the School offers a
combined<br>
total of 60+ credit and non-credit programs and courses of varying
duration<br>
at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Particular
emphasis is<br>
placed on serving the learning needs of Indigenous peoples and
other<br>
equity-seeking groups as well as global communities and
non-traditional<br>
adult learners.<br>

experiential and peer learning combined with close collaboration

Job Duties:<br>
<br>
<br>
The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include,
but are<br>
not limited to, the following:<br>
<br>

<br>
Develop and teach courses in the program or engage in the
equivalent in<br>
special projects or applied research projects, as determined in<br>
consultation with the Graduate Program Director and the Directors
of the<br>
Technology and Innovation and/or Global and Strategic
Communication<br>
academic domains;<br>
-<br>
<br>
Participate in the development, assessment, and continuous
improvement<br>
of the curriculum and teaching materials targeting
early-/midcareer<br>
professionals;<br>
-<br>
<br>
Work with the GPD on the planning and coordination of the
Multilingual<br>
Communication Technologies Stream, including the three-track
capstone<br>
experience (internship/practicum/applied research project), and
assist<br>
with other related academic administrative activities as needed;<br>

<br>
Serve on the relevant workgroups or committees.<br>

<br>
Conduct applied research that contributes to the program and its<br>
incubator role;<br>

<br>
Identify and apply for grants and other sources of funding.<br>
<br>
<br>
Qualifications and Education Requirements:<br>
<br>

<br>
Graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Localization Studies,
Computational<br>
Linguistics, or any other relevant discipline(s)<br>
-<br>
<br>
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Multilingual<br>
Communication Technologies, Multilingual AI, Machine Learning in<br>
Translation, Multilingual AI and Organizing, Computational
Intelligence<br>
Applied to the Language Industry, Localization Engineering,<br>
Translation/Localization Management, UX Localization.<br>

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with course/program
development<br>
and delivery, preferably at the post-secondary level<br>

<br>
Significant current and relevant industry experience in the
relevant<br>
field of expertise<br>

<br>
Active applied research agenda in one or more fields related to<br>
multilingual digital communication<br>
-<br>
<br>
Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an<br>
English-language university where day to day duties may require
English<br>
communication both verbally and in writing . Excellent oral and
written<br>
communication skills in English and, at least, one other language<br>

<br>
Experience in fostering learning by establishing an inclusive and<br>
positive classroom dynamic, involving learners in various
activities, and<br>
managing student participation and group interactions effectively<br>

<br>
Ability to work effectively as part of a team<br>
-<br>
<br>
Experience in and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity,
and<br>
inclusion initiatives, including accessibility in the context of
online<br>
environments<br>
<br>
<br>
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES<br>

Preference will be given to candidates with an interdisciplinary
profile<br>
and experience teaching and conducting research with
interdisciplinary teams<br>

Knowledge of Indigenous languages is highly desirable<br>

Prior experience teaching or training adult learners is a plus<br>
