<p><b>Assistant Research Professors and Postdoctoral Fellows</b><br>
<b>Center for Data Science for Enterprise & Society</b><br>
<b>Cornell University</b></p>
<p>The Center for Data Science for Enterprise & Society at
Cornell University seeks to recruit multiple candidates to be
hired as Assistant Research Professors or Postdoctoral Fellows;
these are 3-year non-tenure-track positions that are funded in
part by the Center and in part by a cooperating unit at Cornell
University. The first cohort recruited for this program started in
academic year 2021-2022.<span style="font-family: "Arial", sans-serif"> </span> </p>
<p>This new Center aims to unify programs and curricula in data
science with an initial emphasis on questions grounded in data
that are generated by human activity, including computational
social science (e.g., sociology and government), the
economics/computer science interface (e.g., the study of voting
mechanisms), the aspects of digital agriculture in the production
and management of agriculture (e.g., managing the food supply
chain), digital platforms supporting urban infrastructure (e.g.,
the sharing economy), and as a theme that is cross-cutting in many
of these areas, the corresponding issues of privacy, security, and
fairness. The areas highlighted are meant to serve only as
illustrative; <b><i>candidates for these Assistant Research
Professorships are sought</i> <i>from all areas of research
that advance the state of the art in data science, extending
the reach of data-driven research into novel application
domains</i>. </b></p>
<p>The application should include the following elements.</p>
(1) a CV;<br>
(2) a research statement summarizing accomplishments to date <br>
(3) a plan of proposed research for the duration of the position
working together with your proposed mentors;<br>
(4) at least two letters of recommendation from faculty who know
your work well;<br>
(5) letters of support from two Cornell faculty members who are
proposed as a primary and secondary faculty mentor (which may be
received as late as January 10, 2025). <br>
<p>One of the positions to be filled will be associated with the <a href="http://mggg.org/" title="Unmangled Microsoft Safelink">Data
and Democracy Lab.</a> </p>
<p>The proposed primary and secondary faculty mentor at Cornell can
be <b>any</b> Cornell faculty members who collectively have
expertise in a core data science domain and an application
domain. <i>Applications for which mentors have positions in
different Cornell units are particularly encouraged. </i>Faculty
mentors can be either on the Ithaca campus or at Cornell Tech in
New York City; however, appointments for applicants must be at
least 50% in Ithaca, and will be split between the campuses
(either 50/50 or 80/20) only if at least one of the mentors is at
Cornell Tech. Candidates are expected to have completed their
Ph.D. prior to the start of this position, and to have already
done substantial research in areas relevant to the Center. <b> For
positions that start in Summer or Fall 2025, applications should
be completed by December 1, 2024 for full consideration, and
will continue to be reviewed until the positions have been
filled. </b></p>

and genders. We strongly encourage women and underrepresented
minorities to apply.</i><i><span style="font-family: "Arial", sans-serif"> </span> </i></p>
