It's also very good for your future career. It's one of our central computational scientist training courses and doesn't have an academic parallel. The first installation help session begins tomorrow, and the course begins next week (T-Th). As usual, the course is online. If you register and are in Finland, you will be invited to in-person watching parties/exercise sessions. You can drop by days relevant to you, see our videos (that are immediately released), and the written material is always available. We support these things for researchers also during our daily garage and can have follow-up tutorials/hackathons with your group if you request. https://scicomp.aalto.fi/help/garage/ Group leaders: All your group members should attend this course at least once - the time savings will pay you back later. We encourage people to form teams and attend together, working on their real projects. Invite us for follow-ups. This invite can be shared with anyone in the world and you can even form teams across institutions. - Richard on behalf of ASC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If you are interested in the software/data/computing behind the research, and wish to talk to other like-minded people, attend and/or submit an event. https://nordic-rse.org/events/2023-online-unconference/ The themes for this year are "hidden gems" (cool things more people should know about) and "paper cuts" (little problems you wish there were solutions for) - anything about research software, scientific computing, data, HPC, and so on. As an "unconference", this is an informal event. Anyone can suggest talks/discussions/workshops/demos, and they don't have to be long or complex - impromptu is expected! This really is the kind of thing that you can talk about your favorite tool and lead a little discussion - maybe you don't even know all the answers but want to ask the question. They can be submitted either in advance or during the event, and we'll assign space based on interest. "Research software engineer" describes a researcher who is more interested in the tech than the papers. This event is a great way to network if you feel this describes you. You can read more at https://nordic-rse.org/about/rse/ . If you have any questions, please let me know. - Richard on behalf of ASC -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Message-ID: Hello! ## TL;DR version ?Python for scientific computing? an on-line course open to anyone on the planet, aimed to improve your scientific Python skills starting Tuesday 7th November at 10:00 EET (4 days, 3 hours per day). 1 ECTS available if you need it. More info and registration at: https://scicomp.aalto.fi/training/scip/python-for-scicomp-2023/ The course is organized by Aalto Scientific Computing in joint collaboration with CodeRefinery, and multiple Nordic partners such as KTH Royal Institute of Technology, University of Oslo, The Arctic University of Norway, University of Helsinki, University of Oulu, University of Jyv?skyl?, University of Eastern Finland, Nordic-RSE, the Finnish Reproducibility Network. Come for the learning and stay for networking with others from the Nordics! ## Longer version ?Python for scientific computing? This course isn?t designed to teach Python itself, but if you know some Python, you will get a good introduction to the broader Python for science ecosystem and be able to use the right tools for your work and keep your code in good shape. Register at the link above; the learning material is already available here: https://aaltoscicomp.github.io/python-for-scicomp/ The course will happen via stream on TwitchTV. If you register you will receive further instructions on how to interact with the instructors, ask questions, and get the best out of this experience. You don't have to join for all the sessions, you can come only for the episodes that you find more useful. If you are coming, there is some software you should install in advance to be prepared (see the course page). See you on Tuesday! Aalto Scientific Computing https://scicomp.aalto.fi/
