Speaker bios:

Dr. Kevin Tavin is Professor of International Art Education at Aalto University School of Arts. Previously, he has also worked as an Associate Professor of Art Education at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1999-2006) and The Ohio State University (2006-2012). His work focuses on visual culture, public pedagogy, and art education. He draws particularly on Lacanian psychoanalytical theory to "disrupt some normative ways of seeing and raise troubling questions that disturb a too easy reading of the world,” as he says in a recent interview (http://arts.aalto.fi/en/studies/alumni_stories/stories_on_creativity_kevin_tavin/). At Aalto, he has also profiled himself as an adamant advocate of transdisciplinarity.

Dr. Mira Kallio-Tavin is Associate Professor of Arts-based Research and Pedagogy at Aalto University School of Arts. Her research focuses on arts-based practices and research in questions of diversity, disability studies, social justice and critical animal studies. She has also developed arts-based research methodology within social context and in relation to the questions of dialogue, community, ethics and philosophy of contemporary art and its education.
