Chair, Department of Computer Science

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, University at Albany
seeks applicants for the position of Chair of the Department of Computer
Science, with the academic rank of full professor, to begin September
2021 or January 2022.

The successful candidate will present an established record of
scholarship with demonstrated potential to lead the growth and
continuing development of computer science as a member of the Dean's
leadership team.

We are building a research-intensive College of Engineering and Applied
Sciences in the tradition of the best high-caliber public programs in
the country, within a diverse, comprehensive, Carnegie Research-1
university. The cornerstone of the college, the Department of Computer
Science has been in existence since 1967, and provided the foundation
for the establishment of our first engineering program in 2016. The
College now consists of three departments: Computer Science, Electrical
and Computer Engineering, and (unique in the nation) Environmental and
Sustainable Engineering. Programs in several other engineering
disciplines are in development as the College is in an exciting period
of rapid growth in both enrollments at the undergraduate and graduate
levels as well as extramurally-funded research. From our location in New
York's Capital Region we engage the community, looking to inspire a more
diverse generation of students to pursue careers in engineering and
applied sciences.

Our programs provide an education that prepares students for careers not
just in the engineering sciences, but also for careers and/or
postgraduate studies in many other fields, including law, medicine,
finance, management, and more.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering
or Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline from a college
or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an
internationally recognized accrediting organization. Applicants must
also have a strong record of funded research and demonstrated expertise
in academic administrative and leadership skills and be committed to
teaching, research, and service. Applicants should demonstrate active
participation in professional engineering organizations. Applicants must
demonstrate their experiences and willingness to work with a culturally
diverse population.

To apply, please submit a complete CV, including a list of publications,
a research statement, and a teaching statement, along with the names and
contact information for at least three references. As part of the
teaching statement, insights regarding remote or on-line instruction are
encouraged.

The College of Engineering and Applied Sciences offers degree programs
from the baccalaureate through PhD, and will do so for every discipline
we launch. For additional information on the College and its
