The group of Mathematical Optimization at Passau University is offering two
positions as full-time PhD or PostDoc researchers. The positions are
associated with research projects at the group within the areas of
discrete and combinatorial optimization,
continuous and infinite dimensional optimization, design, theoretical
analysis, and
computational evaluation of optimization algorithms, game theory and
economics.
The positions come with a teaching load of 5 hours per semester-week in
the broad area of mathematical
optimization but can be adapted to the applicants background. We are
looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong background in
mathematics, theoretical computer science, or operations research, who
completed their master’s or PhD degree or is about to complete it in
2022/23. Profound knowledge of optimization (algorithms, mathematical
programming etc.) and/or strong programming skills are a plus but not
necessary.
The University of Passau owes its strong visibility and good repute to
excellent research, innovative teaching and its tight-knit international
academic networks. Some 12,000 students and more than 1,200 staff study
and work on our University campus, which is located a stone’s throw from
the historical Old Town of Passau and combines
state-of-the-art technical infrastructure with award-winning
architecture. Internationally successful high-tech companies and a
vibrant start-up scene, coupled with a rich culture and Lower Bavarian
traditions, give Passau
and the surrounding area a special appeal that makes it a great place to
live and work. Passau University offers an environment where all talents
can flourish,
regardless of gender, age, cultural background, nationality, or impairments.
We offer employment as a full-time doctoral or Post-doctoral scholar for
initially up to three years, renewable for another two years, after
positive evaluation. Salary is competitive and funds for conference
travels, participation in summer schools, and other activities are
available. The tentative starting date is February 2023, but later dates
are possible, depending on the availability of the candidate.
