A postdoctoral position is open at the Department of Informatics at the
University of Fribourg (Switzerland) within the Decision Support &
Operations Research group. The successful candidate will work on our
Optimization of train crew assignment to activity segments project
funded by the SBB Research Fund. The goal is to develop efficient
algorithms to assign train crews to so-called activity segments. This
step is of great importance, since it drives strategic decisions
impacting not only overall costs, but also employee schedules and
satisfaction, reliability in case of unexpected lack of staff, as well
as training and hiring of specialized collaborators at specific locations.
The postdoctoral position is fully funded for 1 year. Starting date is
as soon as possible. We offer a competitive gross salary starting at
around 80’000 CHF per year. The postdoctoral researcher gets the
opportunity to attend international conferences and to travel and learn
from leading experts through our wide network of academic and industrial
collaborations.
The candidate must:
- have a PhD degree in Operations Research, Computer Science,
Information Systems, Mathematics, or related domain.
- have a strong background in applied combinatorial optimization and
integer programming.

- be able to develop and implement optimization methods for large-scale,
real-world problems.
