will begin December 5th, 2022 (Note the difference from the posted ad),
and continue until a suitable candidate is identified.

1855 Professorships being introduced at MSU were explicitly created to
broaden the diversity of the community of scholars on campus. The
Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE),
in cooperation with the College of Natural Science and the College of
Engineering at Michigan State University, is proud to announce the Data
Science 1855 Professorship, to be filled Fall 2023. CMSE seeks a leader
in the field of methodological development for Data Science.  Preference
will be given to individuals who show a strong commitment to Diversity,
Equity and Inclusion. This is an open rank tenure track position.  All
areas of data science method development across STEM will be
considered.  Special consideration will be given to candidates with a
background in method development for big data and its application
including, but not limited to, environmental science, genomics,
neuroscience, molecular biology, atmospheric science, astrophysics,
plant biology, and image processing. This position may be jointly
appointed with one other department across the College of Natural
Science, with the specific choice of department dependent upon the
candidate's interest and expertise. Questions regarding the position may
be directed to Prof. Andrew Christlieb, Chair of the 1855 Search
Committee (christli at msu.edu).
