Intelligence (CMAI)

*12-month Postdoctoral Research Fellow* position supported by Office of 
Naval Research and Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

Located just 20 miles from Washington, D.C., George Mason University is 
uniquely positioned for collaborations with multiple academic 
institutions, government laboratories, and industry partners in the 
D.C.–Maryland–Virginia region.

*Research Area and Environment.*

The successful candidate will work directly with the CMAI faculty. 
Broadly, the group's activities lie at the interface of

  * optimization and nonsmooth/nonconvex analysis,
  * PDE-constrained optimization and optimal control,
  * numerical analysis and scientific computing
  * risk-averse and fractional models,
  * digital twins and data-assimilating models,
  * machine learning and neural networks (including operator learning
    and surrogates),
  * applications to Maxwell's equations, fluid dynamics, multiphysics
    systems, quantum and control problems, and autonomous systems.

Candidates whose research interests intersect with one or more of these 
themes are especially encouraged to apply.

*Responsibilities.*

  * Conduct independent and collaborative research under the mentorship
    of Prof. Antil.
  * Participate in ongoing projects in CMAI and help develop new
    directions aligned with the group's interests.
  * Contribute to joint publications, grant proposals, and presentations
    at leading conferences and workshops.
  * Interact with graduate and undergraduate students; opportunities
    exist for mentoring and co-supervision of student research.
  * *Teaching is not required* for this position. However, if desired,
    the fellow may have the opportunity to teach courses in the
    Department of Mathematical Sciences by separate arrangement.

The initial appointment will be for *one year*, with the possibility of 
yearly extensions depending on performance and the availability of 
funds. The start date is flexible, with an anticipated start sometime in 
*2026*.
